On May 11, 2017, a bill for the regulation of bullfighting was introduced in the Register of the Parliament of the Balearic Islands, which aims to guarantee, as its explanatory statement says, "the rights to life and physical integrity, and the safety of the people, as well as the welfare of the animals that are the object of these spectacles ".

This proposal aims to regulate the bullfights to adapt the will of a part of the Balearic islanders (particularly anti bullfighting groups) to the current legal system. Even if the bullfighting cannot be abolished, the parliamentarians consider that, at least, it shall not cause any animal abuse in the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands. However, the right-wing political groups, and the central Government, have already announced that they will appeal to the Constitutional Court, if this amendment is approved.
