ABSTRACT

On 18th May 2017, the students of the sixth edition of the Animal Law and Society Master visited the IRTA’s facilities (Research & Technology Food and Agriculture) accompanied by Director Juan Tubau, PhD and Antoni Dalmau, PhD Professor in the Master Programme and responsible for the area of Animal Welfare. This experience allowed us to understand the specific actions and the goals of this center, which gathers pioneering researchers from the European Union to develop animal welfare standards regarding the stunning and slaughter of animals. At the end of the visit, we had the opportunity to enter an experimental slaughterhouse in order to improve our knowledge about the slaughter of pigs and goats.
