SUMMARY:

Under this judgment, delivered in conformity, the head of a canine and feline hotel in Gipuscoa (Basque Country, Spain) is condemned for the continued abuse of many animals housed in their facilities between 2008 and 2014, that were held in deplorable conditions and even killed without legal justification or vet assistance. This commentary raises reflections about the necessary public supervision and control of such activities; the proportionality of the penalty imposed and the relevance of that “awarded” conformity, considering the magnitude and seriousness of the facts; or the settlement of a quantity for the owner of a killed dog, only based on its pure market value.
