Activists in Lima request a change to Law 26585, which allows for the capture and importation of marine animals for captivity


Activists have requested modifying Law 26585 issued in 1996 which permits captivity for dolphins. According to Carlos Yaipén, president of Orca, the regulation that complements this standard establishes minimal parameters for captivity, however owners do not comply with these rules.

Stefan Austermühle, Executive Director of the Mundo Azul Association, states: “[In the case of dolphins] as happens in other countries, the live capture and importation of live species for captivity should be prohibited.
