Animalist Groups request ban on hunting with greyhounds before Congress

In a round table organized by the Asociación Parlamentaria en Defensa de los Animales (Parliamentary Association in Defence of Animals, APDDA) in the Congress of Deputies, on 12 March 2014, representatives of SOS Galgos, Galgos Sin Fronteras and the Fundación Franz Weber [Greyhounds SOS, Greyhounds without Borders, and Franz Weber Foundation] have requested to the Parliamentary Association that hunting with greyhounds is banned or limited in Spain.

The organizations have debated a series of proposals to tackle the problem such as: an increase in surveillance and control of this type of hunting; the establishment of mandatory civil liability insurance for each greyhound, with a mandatory chip; the creation of a State Agency for Companion Animals; criminal penalties that include prison terms for those who abuse these dogs as well as civil liability indemnities.
