Previous diligence initiated for the crime of animal abuse after finding 32 cats dead on municipal land

The events were reported by four residents of Alicante, one of whom was a collaborator for the Asoka El Grande association.

The report, presented on November 17, 2013, was directed against the councilor for Health and the Environment of the City Hall of Alicante, Mr. Luis Barcala, as the principal person responsible for order in the municipal plot. The report informs the commission of the presumed poisoning committed in a controlled colony with between 55 an 60 cats by the neighborhood, producing the death of 32 cats in four days.

Following this report, the Judge of District Court number 5 of Alicante has begun previous diligence with the goal of understanding the events, requesting necropsy reports and veterinary analyses to determine the cause of the death, as this could represent a crime of animal abuse as established in article 377 Penal Code.
