ABSTRACT

The two basic pillars to change the current situation of animal abuse and mistreatment are the law and education. For this reason, Prof. Dr. Gómez Galán has elected the latter pillar as his principal tool to improve animal protection.

Prof. Dr. Gómez created an elective signature in the Pedagogical School at the Universidad de Extremadura, which was a great success, as the majority of his students were completely unaware of the current situation in which non-human animals find themselves.
The program begins with the establishment of the scientific and philosophical bases with the goal of understanding the beginnings of the problem, so that once the concern for animals is established, the possible tools to change the situation can be explained.
As such, he stresses the importance of introducing the students to all these fundamental context both in the legal sphere as well as in the educational sphere.

As a complement to the class, the Professor displayed certain videos that he utilizes in class, indicating which are appropriate for different types of audiences.

As a conclusion to the class, it is of vital importance that educational programs exist with the goal of returning to values that humans have lost and to become more conscientious, as well as broadening the awareness that we have towards other living beings that inhabit this planet.
