ABSTRACT

The author, currently a final year law student at Lewis and Clark University and a former intern at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, analyzes the comparative regulations for laying hens in the European Union and the United States of America. The author highlights the advances in animal welfare advantages in the EU with regards to the prohibition of battery cages and describes the lessons that could be learned and applied in the United States in order to improve the welfare of laying hens.
