Three Persons Guilty Of Poisoning Nine Western Marsh Harriers In A Hunting Reserve

Criminal Court no. 4 of Pamplona has found the president, treasurer and a guard of a natural reserve in Navarra guilty of setting out poisoned bait on the ground in order to control predators and consequently causing the death of nine Western Marsh Harriers, an endangered species identified as vulnerable in the Species Catalogue of Navarra.

The sentences impose fourteen months imprisonment on each defendant, a disqualification from hunting, an indemnity to the Municipal Government and reparation of ecological damage caused.

In the cause, the Municipal Government of Navarra was the private prosecution and the NGO SEO/Birdlife was the popular prosecution.
