Eight months imprisonment for throwing a dog down a ravine within a bag of rocks

In January 2012 a woman threw her dog stuffed within a bag full of rocks to the bottom of a ravine on a mountain in Barakaldo (Biscay). The animal was found in a serious state of health, with cachexia and serious injuries. The dog’s owner had requested the microchip be deactivated in order to prevent its identification.

Tbe APA SOS Bilbao Association, who assumed custody for the animal during its recovery, filed a criminal complaint and represented the accuser in the proceedings.

The perpetrator was sentenced to eight months in prison and two years special disqualification from any business, profession or trade related with animals for animal abuse due to these acts, and issued a fine to be paid to APA SOS Bilbao and ordered to cover all procedural costs.
