Sentenced for killing a dog and injuring another

On June 20, various media outlets reported the sentence of a 54 year old man who had been condemned to three years imprisonment as the perpetrator for the crime of animal abuse, a special, one-year disqualification from any work related with animals, and pay a fine of 350 Euros to Aprenda Proctector Society.

The acts were committed on October 13-14, 2009, in the town of La Luisiana in Seville, when José S.R. tied two dogs to the back bumper of his vehicle, requiring them to run behind the car. As a result, this caused serious injuries to both dogs, a German Shepherd and a Brittany Spaniel. The latter suffered traumatism and abrasions in different parts of the body, causing ulcers and an infectious disease, finally causing death on November 23, 2009.

The presently condemned man reached an agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office, the reason for which no judgment was made, dictating a plea-bargain sentence.

We remind you that the crime of abuse is regulated in article 337 of the Penal Code, and establishes a prison sentence of three months to one year and a one to three year disqualification of exercising any professional, trade or business that is related with animals.
