Watching bullfighting from the fence

Article published in El Pais on October 11, 2012, by Mo Yan, Nobel Prize for Literature in 2012 delaing about Spain and the controversy of bullfighting. He wonders which is the essence of bullfighting and if it really is to publicize and promote such spirit. The author concludes by considering that we should not only abolish bullfighting, but cockfighting, goats, and fights crickets fights since, although such events are not a struggle between man and animal, theycould seem even more obnoxious. Bullfighting at least jeopardizes the life of man, while in cockfighting, goat or crickets, man uses a perverse intelligence to whip the animals to cope without running any risk himself and boast of causing harm to others.
