ABSTRACT


The powers of the municipalities in animal welfare have traditionally been limited to the strictly medical notwithstanding the gradual introduction of the side of protection.

One of the skills that correspond to the municipalities are those related to the location and installation of livestock farms, farms must meet certain requirements as to the distances to be respected for its implementation and in terms of determining a type of conditioning which subjects the law to preserve, essentially, protecting the environment.

Adaptation to the European legislation on animal welfare has prompted some of these farms are to carry out certain reforms if they wish to continue to exercise this activity. This issue has recently attracted some controversy about the cost to the citizen may be the acquisition of products of animal origin, obtained facilities to comply with that legislation, have had to undergo certain adjustments which have increased the cost of production of goods of animal origin intended for human consumption.
his document is intended to analyze these points, focusing primarily on the specific skills that municipalities hold in the field and changes the Catalan regional legislature has undertaken to provide the operators of those farms, the introduction of reforms necessary.
