DG SANCO, General Council, EVP and UAB organized the second European workshop on animal welfare professionals.

The journal of the General Council of Veterinarians of Spain, November-December 2011, published a story about the European workshop on animal welfare professionals.
In this chronicle, it is stated that veterinarians aware of the importance of their work in improving animal welfare and provide tools for the development of its functions were the basic objectives of the Practical Workshop DG SANCO, the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe the General Council of Veterinarians and the Autonomous University of Barcelona hosted the past 1st and 2nd December.

The cost and financiation of the facility improvements required by new European regulations on animal welfare were also discussed at the conference, the first of its kind to be held in Spain. Discoursed on the premises of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Bellaterra, and the same was attended by 140 professionals from 17 countries, both private sector veterinarians and the administration and research institutions.

Experts in various fields of animal welfare participated in the workshop, like the scientist (Esperanza Orellana, deputy director general of the Livestock Producers MARM) to economic (Hans poold, coordinator of the European Economics and Animal Welfare), educational (Hector Palatsi, vocal General Council of Colleges Veterinary Spain) and legal (Teresa Giménez-Candela, a professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, director of the Research Group ADS) and European veterinary authorities (Adriaan Brouwer, representative of the Directorate General Health and Consumer (DG SANCO), Rafael Laguens, vice president of the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe, and Francesc Monné, president of the Veterinary College of Catalonia).
