First Workshop for Veterinary Practitioners. Improving Animal Welfare: a practical Approach

Understanding the idea of animal welfare, in-depth knowledge of applicable law and deepening their own evaluation systems for each species are the objectives of the regional workshop, aimed primarily at veterinary clinical practice, the Autonomous University of Barcelona will host the next 1st and 2nd December: First Workshop for Veterinary Practitioners. Improving Animal Welfare: A Practical Approach, Barcelona-UAB,1-2.12.2011.

This workshop, the second of its kind held in Europe, is driven by the European Commission through its Directorate General for Health and Consumer Affairs, the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs, the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe, the General Council Veterinary College and the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

The initiative, entitled Improvement of animal welfare: a practical approach is oriented mainly to veterinary professionals operating not only in Spain but also Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal and other neighboring countries. Some places will be reserved for official veterinarians, livestock animal health related and students.

The workshops consist of a theoretical and a practice in which participants exercise their knowledge. It also has organized a working group for practitioners working with wild animals in captivity.

The participants in the conference are experts in various fields of animal welfare, since the scientist (Esperanza Orellana, deputy director general of the Livestock Producers MARM) to economic (Hans Poolder, coordinator of European Economics and Animal Welfare), educational (Hector Palatsi, vocal General Council of Colleges Veterinary Spain) and legal (Teresa Giménez-Candela, Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, director of the Research Group ADS) and European veterinary authorities (Adriaan Brouwer, representative of the Directorate General Health and Consumer (DG SANCO), Rafael Laguens, vice president of the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe, and Francesc Monné, president of the Veterinary College of Catalonia)....
