The European Union strengthens regulations on animal experimentation

On May 11, 2010, the 27 countries in the Council of the European Union agreed to promote stricter rules on animal experimentation. These regulations in essence intend to utilize alternative methods of laboratory testing.

As a fact to keep in mind, an estimated 12 million animals are used in experiments every year, according to European Community statistics. Currently, any regulation that reduces these alarming figures will be welcome.
